Ceramics and design come together to dress spaces with intent

Through its latest collaboration with Jaime Beriestain, Sapienstone transforms ceramic surfaces into expressive elements of interior storytelling, introducing a unique visual vocabulary of textures and colors that “dress” spaces with purpose.

Over time, fashion and design have intersected in authentic and spontaneous ways, each discipline enriching the other through its own vocabulary and aesthetic. In his latest collaboration with Jaime Beriestain, Sapienstone brings this convergence to life – showing how ceramics, interior design and fashion blend to redefine the spaces we live in.

This partnership has given rise to Dress Code, the first exclusive collection within Sapienstone’s new Dress Your Look line. Known for its large-format porcelain stoneware surfaces, Sapienstone – part of the prestigious Iris Ceramica Group – leads the way in merging artisanal heritage with technological innovation. Dress Your Look is an evolving design concept that, each year, introduces a new collaboration – a “Dress Code” – with a distinguished designer. Just like haute couture, where a tailor crafts garments with precision and personality, each interior designer in the series composes a unique visual language using textures, colors and ceramic formats to “dress” spaces with elegance and intent.

A vision that aligns with Beriestain’s own creative philosophy, rooted in his multicultural upbringing. “To work in design is a matter of seduction”, says the Chilean-born, Spain-based interior designer named Best Interior Designer of 2016 by Architectural Digest, whose fascination with design began in childhood, nurtured by art books, Hollywood films, and decorating magazines.

Dressing interior spaces: a new vision by Jaime Beriestain

A graduate in Interior Design from Santiago de Chile, Beriestain established his studio in Barcelona, where he developed an eclectic yet timeless approach to interiors. His formative years in the Matta neighborhood of Santiago – where Chilean and European influences coexisted – instilled in him an early sensitivity to spatial transformation. Rearranging the furniture in his home became a playful way of reinventing his surroundings, a habit that foreshadowed the dynamic vision he brings to his professional work today.

Beriestain can be described as curious, restless, demanding, and disciplined. His approach is defined by observation, precision and an unwavering commitment to detail. Though his taste is undeniably eclectic, his interiors carry a timeless imprint, always aiming to create warm, welcoming environments where people feel at ease.

This ethos extends to his enduring admiration for craftsmanship. From the beginning of his career, Beriestain sought out close collaborations with local artisans, immersing himself in the techniques and traditions behind fine materials. These formative experiences sharpened his understanding of textures, processes and the inherent value of artisanal work – an appreciation that continues to shape his projects today.

The Dress Code collection encapsulates this philosophy. Here, Jaime Beriestain transforms ceramics into a luxurious language of surface and tone: rich textures, diverse formats, and a “Deeply Chic” color palette come together to give each space a refined, custom-tailored identity.

Sapienstone’s mission to redefine ceramic design

If Beriestain is known for his exquisite finishes and a distinct vision for working with high-end materials, Sapienstone is equally celebrated for its commitment to quality and innovation. Specializing in large-format porcelain stoneware, the brand seamlessly integrates artisanal tradition with state-of-the-art technology. The name itself symbolizes this dual nature: “intelligent stone” that offers both functionality and an elevated aesthetic experience.

This shared dedication to excellence makes the collaboration between Beriestain and Sapienstone not only natural but also uniquely impactful. His deep knowledge of materials aligns perfectly with Sapienstone’s mission to create surfaces of exceptional beauty and performance. Together, they’ve reimagined ceramic design – not as mere cladding, but as a material that becomes integral to the atmosphere and architecture of a space.

The Dress Code collection: echoes of Haussmannian elegance

Drawing inspiration from the timeless elegance of Parisian interiors, the Dress Code collection evokes the grandeur of Haussmannian mansions. Here, the interplay of noble materials and lighting effects creates immersive, sophisticated environments, where every detail contributes to a layered, cinematic experience.

Each model in the collection reflects this refined approach. Blu Belge, for instance, features a distinctive Filo texture that enhances surface relief and introduces a subtle three-dimensionality animated by light – echoing the intricate inlays found in Parisian building lobbies. Meanwhile, Crema Neve and Grigio Savelli are rendered with the Velo finish, evoking the fluidity and softness of silk or velvet drapery, with light diffusing gently across the surface to create enveloping, atmospheric warmth.

Among the collection’s highlights is Fior di Viola 4D, distinguished by its dramatic burgundy veining and innovative Cresta texture. This combination adds visual depth and dynamic movement, evoking the rich textures of fine fabrics and the elegance of Parisian boiseries, where light and shadow engage in constant dialogue.

A standout innovation in the collection is the Vulca line, which introduces small-format monochromatic glazed ceramics. With their glossy finish and delicate relief, these surfaces create extraordinary plays of light. The palette – featuring Rosso Cremisi, Nero Velluto, Bianco Neve, and Sabbia Perlata – recalls the luxurious wall finishes typical of historic Parisian interiors. These elements come together in Ombra di Luce, a contemporary mosaic that reinterprets traditional French material combinations in a modern, timeless aesthetic.

Where does constant inspiration come from?

Through this collaboration with Jaime Beriestain, Sapienstone has explored new dimensions of ceramic design – not just in terms of material innovation, but also in emotional and spatial expression. The result is a collection that redefines ceramic surfaces as dynamic elements of interior storytelling, elevating how we experience and inhabit architectural space.

For the brand, every project is a unique challenge – an opportunity to collaborate closely with their end clients and explore new forms of material expression. Their passion for working with noble materials drives them to seek sophisticated, avant-garde combinations. Above all, Sapienstone considers the treatment of light fundamental – an essential element in shaping spaces that feel both elegant and inviting.

Complementary to Sapienstone’s material-driven approach, Beriestain’s deeply personal design vision is rooted in memory and emotion. He retains images, gestures, and atmospheres from his encounters and travels, blending past inspirations with modern materials to create something entirely new. This deep well of memory and experience is a constant source of creativity, allowing him to craft interiors that are not only visually compelling but also emotionally resonant.
